Evidently terrorists do not know how to dress like pilots

Pilots' unions have been lobbying to skip airport screening, which they call unnecessary and "demoralizing." The Air Line Pilots Association notes that pilots face extensive background tests, and that pilots wanting to do harm with an airplane would hardly need a weapon because they control airplanes.

Airport screening "has just worn on them," said Pete Janhunen, spokesman for the Air Line Pilots Association, the largest pilots' union. "You trust them to fly a multimillion dollar airplane, and yet a TSA inspector with little training, little experience has the ability to strip-search them for gels." (more here)

We say: Why don't we just fix the screening systems for everyone's sake? Most folks who travel frequently can speak to the "demoralizing" part or broken systems, but any identification program is only as strong as the systems and enforcement.

Indiana cracks nuns on the wrist and says "Pay attention when I speak"!

About 12 Indiana nuns were turned away Tuesday from a polling place by a fellow sister because they didn't have state or federal identification bearing a photograph.

-Ouch! We are all about valid ID, but we sure are happy we were not enforcing this rule.
-Whoa! You really need to watch for those voters in the 80 to 100 year old bracket faking their way in as nuns.
-Sally Fields is really the faker! This proves nuns really do not fly....on airplanes!

Go Green!

We were please to have the folks at the Go Green Expo use our lanyards printed on recycled material. They had a re-attachable safety breakaway connector, so they are green and safe. It's a nice combination.

Five Reasons to Rethink Visitor Management

Out of 10 companies I might visit, I am lucky if one painlessly verifies my identity and issues a personalized visitor credential. Most have me sign the old paper log, assume I must be who I say I am, and hand me a dog-eared visitor badge left over from the Nixon administration. At least one or two out of the 10 doesn’t even use a log book; just a wave to “come on back.” Let’s just say that visitor management is pretty low on the list for most companies.

Read the five points and more here. It's good stuff.

Impersonators erode trust in plainclothes police officers

“Anyone can get a badge,” Elizabeth Lange said. “You can go online and get badges. Anyone can say they’re a cop.”

That is why people with questions about someone claiming to be a plainclothes deputy need to ask for more, Malagon said.

“The badge means nothing unless there is an identification card that goes with it,” he said. “A photo ID.” (more here)

We say: While you at it, go ahead and add a few security features to the photo ID card to ensure authentication.
