From Jackson, MS we read:
Melton and his two police bodyguards flew armed on flights from Jackson and other airports on several occasions after his 2005 election. Before TSA asked the mayor to leave his guns at home, Melton was able to bring them aboard flights by displaying a gold badge with the word "mayor" on it and a letter from then-Jackson Police Chief Shirlene Anderson indicating he was a law enforcement official.
